As the summer fades to autumn, here’s a short-and-sweet LP-length second entry in the ‘Le Monde du Country‘ series, only about a year later than originally planned.  Following up on the wider-roaming 2-LP ‘Le Monde du Country ’72‘.  ‘Le Monde du Country ’75‘ carries on the vibe of that first mix, staying away from slick Nashville sounds and focusing in on the more adventurous, expansive things happening in and adjacent to Country in the mid-70s.  The rhythms are funkier, the politics are more palatable, the production is lower-key, the lyrics generally more personal and thoughtful in their story-telling way.  Call it “Country for people who don’t like Country” if you want–but I’d argue it’s also truer to what Country music should be, coming from its utterly un-glossy origins (and free from disingenuously hawking Mamas, pickup trucks on dusty roads, tears in beers, and ‘Merica love-it-or-leave-it).

Much of this music is in print, so please as always, go and buy it! The mixes I make are meant to stand on their own as a particular sound experience, but more importantly, they’re meant to get you excited to go and explore and support artists, labels and shops buying music you didn’t know. Thank you for listening, and please share this post and help others share the love.
